Can you kindly introduce yourself to Nollywoodgossip’s readers?
My name is Davina Achema. I’m a music artist/Jewelry designer and have been recording and performing since 2005. I have played alongside international acts like Jahrule, Kevin Little, Akon, Kanye West, LL Cool J, and lots of Nigerian acts. I started building my jewelry empire 3 years ago by launching the Davina Secret Nig jewelry line, with clients from all over the world: London, USA, Germany, Ghana, Cameroon, and from many other countries. I also have a training school where I train other women to become CEO of their own jewelry biz.
Can you tell us of your journey into the entertainment industry?
So far so good the journey has been fantastic for most male artistes but not as good for most female artistes in Nigeria, but hopefully soon it will be as good for us females in the industry. As for me I will continue with my afro pop music and hope to grace big stages home and abroad. I am working with Oritsefemi on one of my tracks titled “DELE” and hopefully I will do some more collaboration this year.
What are the core challenges you have faced in the industry?
The challenges are lack of good and efficient music labels, lack of enough paying shows to give back to the artistes, lack of appreciation from the listeners, these are the challenges music artists are facing every day in Nigeria.
Have you found your Mr Right?
Lol yes I have, with a jaw dropping marriage proposal that is making headlines all over and I feel very lucky to have him in my life. He absolutely completes me in every area of my life.
What do we expect after marriage?
I’m going to continue to be me on a bigger platform either singing or doing jewelry biz.
Either singing? Can you shed more light on this? We know Davina as a singer…does it mean that there might be a change in plan after marriage?
Yep, if things change for the better for females in d music industry, definitely I will do more music and also do the jewelry business, and vise-versa, but definitely music and jewelry is what I will always do, forever till death.
So what advice do you have for upcoming artists?
I would advise upcoming artistes not to go into showbiz for the money and fame, but for the love of the art, because if you do art for just money and glamor you will be disappointed and end up making a mess of your life. Stay focused because you will meet dream killers as you go; people who will give a million reasons why you can never make it. Please do not encourage or accommodate them because they will ruin your mission and you will quit. Ask people like P Square, 9ice, Timaya and others, you will find out a lot of people ridiculed their kind of music when they came into the industry newly, but they persevered and today their music is being celebrated all over the world. And last, do not quit because quitters never win.
Nollywoodgossip wishes you the best.
Thanks very much.
