This ought to be the lamest face-saving excuse ever given by the Nigerian police.
Nigeria’s police boss, Mohammed Abubakar has revealed why the police failed to save the four students of the University of Port Harcourt, gruesomely killed by a mob in Aluu, in Rivers state on 5 October.
In a statement issued today in Abuja, The Inspector General of police explained that his men were chased away with stones by the mob attacking the boys. He said when a reinforced team of policemen returned to the scene, the boys had been killed and burnt by the mob.
Did we hear him say chased away with stones? This is a disgrace!

“On 5th October, 2012 at about 0700Hrs, based on a distress call that some armed robbers were arrested at Omukiri-Aluu area in Ikwerre LGA, a patrol team of four Policemen from Isiokpo Divisional Police Headquarters was dispatched to the area, a distance of about 10kms. The Police on getting to the scene met a mob attack on four victims who were supposedly the suspected armed robbers. Attempt made by the Police Patrol Team to take over the suspects were met with stiff opposition from the mob who chased the team with stones.
“Consequently, the Patrol Team called for reinforcements, but unfortunately, upon the arrival of the reinforcements, the alleged armed robbery suspects have been stoned and burnt to death, while the mob immediately took to their heels. The corpses were recovered by the Police who by then have been joined by members of the Joint Task Force (JTF).”
Apparently it took the reinforcements hours to arrive at the scene, because witnesses claimed that the mob were in no hurry as they took their time to assault, violate and murder the innocent students.
The Police have been severely criticized by witnesses for simply abandoning the students to their fate when they got to the scene of lynching. A relation of one of the victims actually accused the police of encouraging the mob to kill the boys.

The police is to be blame no matter the circumstance of the mob when they arrived at the scene, reason is dat robbers were caught so they should be prepared before going & mob with stones can't chase police with guns away in our present society, so the story the IG is saying is fallacy.

What the fuck does he mean by “chased away with stones”? Did they go there with toy guns and laughter gases ? Seriously ?? In my own opinion, the gruesome video should be the Undoing of the MURDERERS and it is more than enough for the police to apprehend them. Consequently, if the IG and his cohorts don’t do anything about this dastardly act then they should be held responsible for the deaths of the innocent students.
