Kindly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sahndra Fon Dufe. I am a 22 years old actress, writer and producer from Cameroon, Central Africa. I moved to Los Angeles almost two years ago with the dream of putting Cameroon on the map for film and for winning an Oscar for a performance in a lead role. I also live to inspire women and children all over the world to have a reason to believe that they can be super heroes if they do something to change their lives and others. I love life, I love food, I love people and all I want is for people to be happy.
Tell us of your new project.
The movie Yefon talks about the journey of an African woman struggling to get an education in a village where women are not allowed to go to school. She loses her life in the process, but because of that, the first school for girls is built. It is more than just a movie. It is a movement to create awareness on this problem which exists in our society even today. Some of the proceeds from the film will be used to build a school in the village where the film will be shot- Nso Cameroon.
Is this your first movie as a producer?
Actually yes it is (laughs). I am learning as I go but it is been amazing so far. I look forward to making big things happen.
What inspired the movie?
Man, I was very inspired by all types of things. When I was a little girl in boarding school, I heard about the unfortunate event of a Nigerian woman Amina Lawaal and I was very bothered by this. As I grew up, I had a weird habit of researching stuff on Youtube. Sometimes, I run into the funniest videos but sometimes I also run into the most amazing things and that’s how I ran into this video about a woman who had been denied an education. It reminded me of the story of Amina and I started researching more. After a lot of sleepless nights filled with research, I found all kinds of things, and then I started writing. Next thing I know, I have this amazing story. One year and many rewrites after, here we are!
We learned there’s a new way of raising funds for film production. Kindly shed more light on that for our readers.
Actually, there are a lot of them. We are using Kickstarter, which is a crowd- funding system where the film maker/artist creates content in order to raise funds for their project and the crowd funds your project in exchange for rewards created by the film maker. It is really one of the next big things. However, it is a risk you have to take because it’s all or nothing, If you set a goal, at say, $50,000 like mine, you either get all if you reach your full goal or nothing if you don’t.
Who are the stars in the movie?
The cast of the film includes Oscar nominated Adrianna Barazza, Isaiah Washington, Hakeem Kae Kazim, Jimmy Jean Louis, Uti Nwachukwu, Leleti Khumalo, Kalu Ikweagu, Said Faraj, and many more. The soundtrack will be scored by 7 times Grammy nominated Kelly Price.
