Please introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Chinedu Achebe and I currently live in Houston, TX, USA. I graduated from the University of Houston with my bachelor’s degree in Economics and currently work in the accounting industry. Blunted on Reality is my debut novel.
How long have you been living in America?
I was born and raised in the United States; both parents are Igbo and are from Anambra State.
Tell us of your journey into writing?
I feel that the writing bug has always been in me, but I never felt like I had a compelling story to write about. I tried to start my own blog a few years ago, but I didn’t get the traction that I wanted from it. I feel that the rise of Barack Obama and eventually him winning the U.S. presidency in 2008, made me start thinking about documenting this historic moment in world history. So I decided to create my own unique story line that would cover the course of one year, starting the day after Obama’s election victory.
Tell us of your new book
Blunted on Reality follows the life of Obi Ifeanyi, he is a Nigerian American lawyer in his late 20s, who is coming of age after the historic election of Barack Obama. Obi has to confront challenges that impact his family, career, and romantic interests, and be forced to examine his past and present choices to define his future. The book also delves into some of the social and political issues in the U.S. and Nigeria during that time as well.
Is it a real life story?
No, the book is based on some experiences and conversations that I have gone through with friends, family, and dating.
Do you plan to make the story into a Nollywood movie?
I have thought about the story being turned into Nollywood movie, but I guess we will see how everything works out. For right now, I am just focused on promoting the book. If the opportunity does happen to make it a movie, I definitely will let Nollywoodgossip know about it.
If the story is to be made into a Nollywood movie, which Nigerian actor would you prefer to play the character of Obi Ifeanyi?
That is funny you guys asked this question, because the thought has run through my mind. I would probably go with Desmond Elliot. I feel his demeanor fits a lot of the qualities of my main character Obi Ifeanyi.
Who is your favourite Nollywood actress?
Now this is a very hard question for me to answer. But I will have to go with Genevieve Nnaji. I have liked her since her role in the movie Games Women Play and also the fact that she is attractive helps as well.
Are you married or seeing anyone?
I just got out of a relationship, so I am single for the moment.
