Please tell our readers a bit about yourself?

My name is Emeka Duru, from a small town called Okponakuma in Njaba LGA of Imo state. I’m the first from a family of 4 — 2 boys and 2 girls. I schooled at Immaculate Conception Seminary School, Umuahia in Abia state.

How long have you been acting?

I’ve been in Nollywood since 1994. I came in as an actor, did some films before going behind the camera, but I still act.

List of some of your movies.

As an actor I have done Nollywood hustler, Memories of my heart. I have also done a couple of other movies and I’ve produced two movies titled Bleeding hearts in 1997 and salt and pepper. And beside this, I’ve managed a lot of other productions.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on a historical movie titled Lion of 76. It’s a movie on the coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed.

Are you going to act in the movie?

Yes, I’m playing the role of sergeant (sgt) Ameh, and I’m also the production manager.

Which is more challenging, producing or acting?

Both have challenges that come with them. For producing, you have to do a lot of running around to get the money and plan for the job. But for acting, the role you are playing is what determines how much challenges you could have, so both are challenging in different ways.

What are the changes you see in Nollywood in recent times?

A lot, like movies going to cinemas, a few producers are becoming serious, planning production before shooting and spending much money on production. I think Nollywood is moving to another stage for the better.

Now that many movies are going to the cinemas, do you think the problem of piracy will be reduced?

Well if the movies do not enter market, yes. But if at the end of the day it enters the market, there will still be problem of piracy, so in a way the movies going to cinema is a big help.

Are you married or seeing anyone?

Hmmm, I’m not married, but will soon be, and yes, I’m seeing someone.

Divorce is becoming too rampant among black couples. What do you think has changed in recent time?

Nothing has changed because there are still high cases of divorce every day.

What are you looking for in a woman?

Homely, good manners, God fearing, intelligent, and must be beautiful.

Back to job, when are we expecting your new movie?

You mean the one we are doing now? I don’t know yet, but it will go to the cinemas, both here and in other African countries and box offices too.

Tell us a bit about your journey into Nollywood.

Well I thank God for everything. He has been good to me. I fill fulfilled and I also thank Mr Zik Zulu Okafor and Emem Isong for believing in me and Mr Natty Bruce Idigbogu for showing me the way. I am happy I’m in this business.

Any other project you’re working on?

Yes after this movie, I want to go into Igbo film production so that we can also get our own channel on African Magic. We started this business, but other tribes are taking over from us.

Words for your fans.

To my fans, the best is yet to come. You will see a lot of changes in Nollywood, just believe in us and we will not disappoint and for my Igbo brothers and sisters, we are working hard to bring to you our own African Magic Igbo but we can’t do that without your support.

Nollywoodgossip wish you the best.

Thank you so much for your time. God bless you.
