HollyWOOD, BollyWOOD and now NollyWOOD, I hate this WOOD nonsense – Nollywood movie director Jeff Ogboso

Jeff Olaka Ogboso speaks to Nollywoodgossip

On a comments by celebs, Nollywood movie director Jeff Ogboso lashes out on Nigeria’s culture of imitation. He wonders why we have to imitate everything other countries do.

Hear him:

Let me ask this, do we always have to copy the west in everything? Bollywood started this, and it hanged, then Nollywood, we let that hang too…this has to stop immediately!

Why do the film industry have to use the word “WOOD” at the end of every industry’s name like GhallyWOOD=Ghana, SollyWOOD= SierraLeone, CamiWOOD=Cameroon, KannyWOOD=Kenya, I think, sallyWOOD=South Africa.

If you think that’s all, what about native language movie in Ghana=KumaWOOD, Hausa movie in Nigeria=KannyWOOD, Yoruba movies then should be IbadannyWOOD and Ibo movie=OnitshannyWOOD or EnuguWOOD, RUBBISH!

These are foolish names! When are we going to emancipate ourselves from this mental slavery?

Why can’t we use a deep rooted African name like OSISInaija if it has to be “WOOD”? I hate this “WOOD” nonsense!!

Lol, we couldn’t stop laughing KumaWOOD, IbadannyWOOD and OnitshannyWOOD.

Anyway, you’ve heard him, let’s hear your opinions on this.

I have thought about this long before now. I Totally agree with you my brother. Imitations makes one stupid and unintelligent. THAT'S HOW PEOPLE LEARN, but that s how people remain stupid. too. The only way practiced hitherto is that of imitating others. That makes you knowledgeable but it does not make you intelligent. It makes you more informed but it does not release your wisdom. It will make you efficient as far as outer world is concerned — you will become a better mechanic, a better technician — but as far as the inner dimension is concerned you will become more and more stupid if you imitate.LET'S BE AUTHENTIC TOGETHER! (OR: LEARNING HOW TO STAND OUT IN A CROWD).
